Free Cozy Love Quilt Block Pattern featuring To Grandmother’s House
Strolling down memory lane with the beloved fairy tale with a twist through this new fabric collection.
Hello friends! It’s Sandy from Thai Charm llc, and I have a quick & adorable Cozy Love quilt block featuring fabric from To Grandmother’s House Collection, designed by Jennifer Long, to share with you today.
Technique
Stitch and Flip Method (SNF) is used to make a Cozy Love quilt block.
- Place (2) pieces right sides together, matching
raw edges in the corner to be replaced. - Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the smaller piece across the corner.
- Stitch on the drawn line. Trim ¼” away from the sewn line.
- Flip the small piece away from the bottom piece and press seam open.
- The size of the larger, original piece does not change.
Material for (1) one block
- 2) 5″ x 9.5″, pink fabric for the center heart block
- (2) 5″ squares, white fabric for the center heart block
- (4) 2″ squares, white fabric for the center heart block
- (16) 3.5″ squares for scrappy borders
Making the heart Block
Gather (4) 2″ squares from white fabric, line up at the top corners of (2) 5″ x 9.5″ rectangles (Pink fabric). Using SNF method as explained above to create corners for the heart block. Then line up (2) 5″ squares with the bottom of the rectangles, using SNF method to make the bottom corners.
Placement matters
Pay close attention to the orientation of each unit before you trim.
Adding scrappy borders
- SIDE BORDERS: Sew (3) 3 1/2” border squares as shown in the diagram below, press seams open or to one side. Repeat the step and make a total of (2) side border strips.
- Sew (2) side border strips to both sides of the heart block. Press seams towards the strips.
- TOP & BOTTOM BORDERS: Sew (5) 3 1/2” border squares as shown in the diagram below, press seams as desired. Repeat the step and make a total of (2) strips.
- Sew the top & bottom border strips to the top and bottom of the heart block. Press seams towards the strips.
- The block measures 15 1/2” square.
This block is such a quick make and perfect to use up your scraps. I decided to make 9 blocks, add some sashing strips and turn them into a lap size quilt.
