Desert Daydreams Design of the Month-Goldie

Hi there, all you cool Pins and Needles!  It’s Melisa from Stitchology.  I’m back today to share with you our 12th and final block in the 2025/2026 Design of the Month program!  This year’s theme, Desert Daydreams, is inspired by my childhood in New Mexico. In addition to the monthly blocks, we will release a quilt that incorporates all 12 blocks as we approach the finish line.  The blocks are available as kits or PDF downloadable patterns and once the month is over that kit will no longer be available, so you will need to be sure to check back monthly to see the new design and to grab your kit while you can!

Kits can be purchased here:

Our twelfth block is Goldie the Red Eared Slider.  She is inspired by the turtle that visits my parents’ backyard most summer afternoons for a snack (even though that one is a box turtle).

Now that we are on the last block you might be wondering what comes next. Next month I will reveal the quilt I designed using all 12 blocks. Here is last year’s quilt to give you an idea of what it could look like.  I like to keep things fresh, so this year’s layout is different, and the quilt finishes at 40” square.

Starting Friday, May 8th You will be able to order the finishing kit which includes all the fabric you need to finish the quilt. The finishing kit does not include any blocks.  Alternatively, you will also be able to order the complete kit which contains all the blocks and everything you need to finish the quilt.

Also Starting Friday, May 8th, we will have the comeback tour.  What this means is, for a limited amount of time, you will be able to pick up any block kits you missed.  The kits will only be available for a short time so you’ll want to watch for our emails if you are missing any. The PDF patterns will continue to be available. Here are the 12 blocks to help you plan ahead!

Now is a great time to finish up any of the blocks you have already collected.  If you need a refresher on raw-edge applique you can find the tutorial here:

I also recommend you check out this post where I demo how to use parchment paper to help with the layout:

We are so close to the finish line!

Thanks for reading.

Melisa
