The Genesis of a Journey in Flying Geese

Hey, hey! It’s Sarah of Sarah Jean Makes and I’m am so in love with this collection from Genesis Hall! The Genesis of a Journey, the first collection from this talented young designer, is full of bright color, travel themed motifs, and dynamic prints. I was so excited to play with this collection!

I wanted to highlight the fabrics in a fun way and use as many possible prints from the collection as possible. I decided to make flying geese as the main block in the quilt, using the four-at-a-time method to create 4×8 inch finished blocks. I then joined them together in a column to make a 16×8 inch block. Once I paired all of the fabrics with contrasting color and print, I was able to pull together a really punchy and vibrant quilt top. I was amazed how quickly it came together!

This collection also includes an amazing cheater print that is an absolute dream. I used the print as a panel for the backing, paired with the Shades blender in Grape to frame it. It makes a huge impact on the back of the quilt, don’t you think?

All in all, this collection is full of energy and sweet nostalgia of trips taken. I cannot wait to toss this one across my couch to snuggle up with and plan for my next family vacation!

Thanks so much for following along with my project. If you’d like to keep up with more of my quilty makes, please follow me on Instagram @SarahJeanMakes or check out my website www.sarahjeanmakes.com. Quilting on this quilt was completed by Dana Miller of Coastside Quilt Studio.
