Stitch the Adam Doll: A Handmade Companion with Heart

Hello friends! This is Jennifer Long from Sew A Story. One of my favorite things about doll making is the way it helps us slow down and create something lasting. The Adam Doll is a soft, in the hoop machine embroidery pattern that invites you to do just that. Stitch a keepsake with care.

Made in three sizes (14″, 16″, or 18″) and compatible with 5×7, 6×10, or 8×12 hoops, the Adam Doll stitches together in sections, then comes to life with a leafy romper, tiny shoes, and hand stitched personality.

This pattern uses fabric from my Created With Love collection for Riley Blake Designs, which features meaningful motifs and coordinating textures that work beautifully for dolls, quilts, and children’s projects.

A Doll That Tells a Story

Adam is a companion character, designed to go along with the Eve Doll. If you read last month’s blog post, you saw how Eve comes together with a soft dress and wings. Now, Adam offers a new option with matching leaf details and a gentle, playful design.

Each doll is assembled using machine embroidery steps and a little hand sewing. Whether you’re stitching for a child, building a keepsake collection, or trying in the hoop dolls for the first time, this is a calming and creative project.

A Touch of Fall for Your Sewing Room

While the Adam Doll isn’t a seasonal pattern, the earthy palette in the sample makes it perfect for autumn. The leafy romper, warm brown tones, and simple textures fit beautifully into fall decor or gift giving. You might place him near felt pumpkins or sew him in flannel textures for a cozy seasonal touch.

You can even pair him with other soft dolls to create a collection that grows throughout the year.

Fabric Information

The Adam Doll was sewn using prints from the Created With Love fabric collection by Jennifer Long for Riley Blake Designs. Based on the chart in the pattern, here is what you will need:

  • C15976-SPROUT for romper and undergarment (Fat Eighth to Fat Quarter)
  • C120-SHELL for the body (1/4 to 5/8 yard depending on size)
  • Brown wool, felt, fleece, or minky for the hair (Fat Eighth to 1/3 yard)

You will also need stabilizers, elastic, washi tape, and fiberfill, as listed in the instructions.

The Adam Doll is a peaceful project to stitch at your own pace, with results that are thoughtful and full of personality. Whether you are making one or creating a set, I hope this pattern brings joy to your sewing time and to the hands that receive it.

I can’t wait to see what you create.
Yours in crafting together,
Jennifer Long
