Spring Corset Heart with The Old Garden

Spring is almost here, and I couldn’t be more excited! The air is buzzing with anticipation, and the promise of new beginnings fills every corner. Inspired by the freshness of the season and the enchanting beauty of “The Old Garden” fabric collection by Danelle Sidron, I embarked on a creative journey to sew  a throw size quilt that captures the essence of love and renewal.

For this project, I am sharing my free quilt block called “ The Corset Heart Block. Its intricate design and romantic appeal perfect for the whimsical motifs found in “The Old Garden” fabrics. With each stitch, I envisioned blooming flowers, fluttering butterflies, and the gentle caress of a spring breeze.

You can make your very own by gathering a few things!

  • Fabric from “The Old Garden” collection
  • Background fabric
  • Rotary cutter and cutting mat
  • Quilting ruler
  • Sewing machine and coordinating thread
  • Iron and ironing board
  1. Fabric Selection: Sort through your fabric stash and select a variety of prints and colors from “The Old Garden” collection. Mix and match florals, stripes, and solids to add depth and visual interest to your quilt.
  2. Cutting: Using your rotary cutter and quilting ruler, cut the fabric into the following pieces:
  1. Corset Heart Block pieces: Follow the measurements and cutting instructions for the Corset Heart Block pattern.
  2. Background fabric: Cut squares or rectangles to frame each Corset Heart Block.
  1. Piecing: Piece together the Corset Heart Blocks according to the pattern instructions. Take your time to align the seams and press each seam allowance for crisp, clean lines.
  2. Assembly: Lay out your Corset Heart Blocks and background fabric pieces in your desired arrangement. Experiment with different layouts until you find a design that speaks to you.
  3. Sewing: Once you’re satisfied with the layout, sew the blocks and background fabric together row by row. Press the seams open or to the side as preferred for a flat and smooth finish.
  4. Finishing Touches: After piecing the quilt top, layer it with batting and backing fabric. Quilt as desired, whether through straight-line quilting, free-motion quilting, or hand quilting. Finally, bind the edges to complete your quilt.

As you stitch each seam and watch your quilt come to life, let yourself be swept away by the beauty of spring and the joy of creating something handmade with love. Whether you snuggle up with it on chilly evenings or drape it over a favorite armchair, may your Corset Heart Block quilt serve as a reminder of the warmth and magic of this enchanting season.

Incorporate “The Old Garden” fabrics into your quilting projects, and let your creativity blossom like the flowers in springtime. Happy quilting!
