Mouse King Doll: A Little Mischief for Your Christmas Sewing
Hello friends! This is Jennifer Long from Sew A Story.
Every Christmas story needs a memorable character, and the Mouse King certainly knows how to make an entrance! With his royal crown, playful expression, and mischievous personality, he brings a wonderful sense of adventure to the classic Nutcracker story.
Today, I am excited to share my Mouse King Doll, created using my Nutcracker Tradition fabric collection for Riley Blake Designs. Available in both traditional sewing and machine embroidery versions, he is a fun addition to our Nutcracker doll collection.

A Mouse King Full of Personality
From his oversized ears and embroidered whiskers to his golden crown and detailed uniform, the Mouse King is full of character.
I especially love how the rich pine greens, midnight blues, and golden accents from the Nutcracker Tradition collection bring his royal appearance to life.
There is also an optional cape pattern available for both versions, featuring gathered fabric and a decorative collar that completes his royal Christmas look.

Two Ways to Create Your Mouse King
Whether you enjoy traditional doll making or machine embroidery, there is a version of the Mouse King for you.
Machine Embroidery Version
The in-the-hoop version is available in three finished sizes: 14″, 16″, and 18″, with files included for 5×7, 6×10, and 8×12 hoops.
This version combines machine embroidery with sewing techniques to create the doll and his finishing details.
Sewing & Hand Embroidery Version
The Mouse King is also available as a 16-inch sewing and hand embroidery pattern.
This version combines fusible appliqué, hand embroidery, and traditional doll construction, giving you the opportunity to enjoy creating each piece by hand.
Both versions have their own coordinating optional cape pattern.

Three Tips for Sewing Your Mouse King
1. Take Your Time with the Face
Carefully position the facial details before stitching. This helps create his playful expression and gives your finished doll personality.
2. Stuff with Care
Add small amounts of stuffing at a time, working into the arms, legs, and body to create an even shape. A turning tool can help reach those narrow areas.
3. Give the Cape a Beautiful Finish
If you choose to add the optional cape, take your time creating the gathers. Distributing the fabric evenly will help the cape drape nicely around your finished doll.

A Character That Completes the Story
The Mouse King is part of our five-doll Nutcracker Tradition collection, bringing another beloved character from this Christmas tale into your sewing room.
I love the idea of displaying these dolls together beneath a Christmas tree, arranging them on a festive shelf, or bringing them out during family storytime.
Whether you create the Mouse King as a holiday decoration, a handmade gift, or part of your Nutcracker doll collection, I hope he brings laughter, imagination, and Christmas storytelling into your home.
Yours in storytelling creativity,
Jennifer Long
