Make it Modern – The Big Giant Quilted Bow

Nothing says “welcome” quite like a handmade touch. I wanted to try something a little different from my usual quilts and bags, and the Big Giant Quilted Bow pattern by Lindsey Grace Creates caught my eye. It’s her very first pattern, and it’s as fun to make as it is to display. I chose a mix of reds and oranges from the Confetti Cottons line, because if you’re going bold, why not go all in?

Hey there, Kelly Renay here. I love how this project lets you showcase your quilty heart in a unique way. With Fall quickly approaching, it’s the perfect time to add a cheerful, handmade touch to your front door. Unlike a quilt that hangs on a wall or a bag tucked under your arm, a giant quilted bow makes a bold, welcoming statement.

Why This Pattern Works

What I especially appreciated about Lindsey’s instructions is how approachable the pattern is. Even though it’s a “large” project, the steps are clearly written, and the structure of the bow makes it easy to sew with confidence. She provides instructions on how to make a whole cloth or patchwork styled bow or you can get creative with your approach like I did, but don’t forget to pay attention to the panel sizes as those are key to getting this fantastic Big Giant Quilted Bow.

Tips for Your Big Bow

  • Fabric choice matters: I stuck with reds and oranges for a bold seasonal look, but Confetti Cottons come in so many colors you could coordinate with any decor.
  • Batting Matters: For a crisp, full bow, I suggest using the batting listed in the pattern for extra loft. Or, if you have lots of smaller pieces of batting from long-arm trimming like I do, you can layer them strategically. I used a double layer for the front panels and a single layer for the back panels.
  • Weekend-friendly project: One of the things I love about this pattern is how manageable it is. You can easily make a Big Giant Quilted Bow in a single weekend! It’s a big impact project without weeks of sewing, perfect for a quick seasonal refresh.

If you’re looking for a project that’s a little outside your usual quilting routine but still celebrates your love for handmade touches, this bow is a winner. It’s playful, adorable, and absolutely perfect for anyone who wants to let their quilty heart shine.
