Stars & Stripes Forever Quilt – A Patriotic Celebration in Stitches
By Shannon Arnstein

Just in time for the 4th of July, I’m thrilled to share my latest quilt made from the Stars and Stripes Forever fabric collection! I’ve titled this quilt “Star Flight” because the stars appear to be in motion—like they’re soaring across the sky—surrounding the bold panel blocks at the center of the design.
This red, white, and blue beauty is full of American spirit and charm—featuring a festive mix of pinwheels, sawtooth stars, and a fabulous panel set at the heart of the design.

The centerpieces of this quilt are the whimsical panel blocks, each one showcasing iconic patriotic sayings and symbols: from waving flags and fireworks to quotes like “Let Freedom Ring” and “Land of Liberty.” These panels are perfectly framed by bold star blocks in coordinating prints from the collection, giving the whole quilt a joyful, firework-like energy.

This project is the perfect make for anyone who wants to celebrate Americana in a big way. Whether you’re headed to a picnic, parade, or just watching fireworks from the porch, this quilt brings the celebration with you. Toss it on the grass for fireworks viewing, hang it on a wall, or snuggle under it for a summer night—this quilt is both fun and functional.

Grab your Stars and Stripes Forever panel set and some coordinating yardage, and you’ll be well on your way to stitching up a quilt that’s ready for all your Independence Day festivities. This is one that will shine year after year—because freedom never goes out of style.

One of my favorite panel blocks in Star Flight features a sweet bouquet of red, white, and blue flowers tucked inside a “Ball” jar labeled “USA.” This block feels especially dear to me—every time I look at it, I think of sipping iced tea from a Ball jar on a hot summer day. It’s a quiet nod to my hometown roots, since the Ball brothers, the creators of those iconic jars, called Muncie, Indiana home—just like I do. There’s something so special about stitching a bit of personal history into a quilt, and this block does exactly that.
