Winged Medley of a Homestead Quilt

Meet the Winged Medley edition of the Homestead Star quilt!
Hi again—Lesley here from Piece and Quilted Studio! I’m so excited to share this beautiful quilt I created using Winged Medley, the newest fabric collection by Katherine Lenius. This line features soft, soothing hues paired with blooming florals, playful geometric prints, and the sweetest little birds.

I chose the Homestead Star quilt pattern because I thought it would be the perfect way to showcase all the beautiful prints in this collection. The pattern is by Lindlee of Plains and Pine—and it’s a good one! If you’ve never made a star quilt before, I highly recommend her patterns. They’re written in such a clear, thoughtful way that you’re almost guaranteed to get those nice, pointy points (see my example above!). And this particular pattern comes together surprisingly quickly.
(Not pictured: a few not-so-pointy points 😉

For the background fabric, I used RBD Basics Dapple Dot in Frosting, and the backing is from the Bee Gingham line in Raisin. This was actually the first time I sent a quilt out for longarming—and honestly, it might’ve been a mistake… because now I’m not sure I can go back to quilting on my little machine with its 6″ throat space! Simone, at Design Wall did an amazing job, and let’s just say I’ve got a growing stack of quilt tops that’ll be needing some longarm love soon! Happy Sewing!
