Free Crochet Pattern – Aster Star Doily in Chunky Thread
Hello again! It’s Kristen from Verity Vintage Studio popping back on with a Chunky Thread crochet project – and this time it’s a FREE pattern!

Summer is drawing to an end, and the ambitious summer project I had planned to feature here was just not going to get finished in time, so I decided to bump it till fall, and do a freebie instead!

I alway love purple for this time of year, probably because of the purple asters which bloom in late summer and herald the season’s change. For this little crochet project I use the aster as my inspiration to make a lovely little lace doily with a floral center.

Doilies are traditionally used to protect surfaces and decorate at the same time, but there are lots of uses for them. Use them to add a touch of of lace on a quilted tote or denim jacket, appliqué to a quilt block or pillow, bind into a hoop for wall art…there are many options!

It’s a great way to showcase your favorite two-color combination. For these models I used Plum and Weathered, and also Old lace and Raindrop – but the possibilities are many. I think it would be fun for a Christmas project with a red center, like a poinsettia – or in pastels for spring.

It finishes at 10″ diameter, and in this sport weight cotton yarn it works up quickly, with pops of color and texture.

Make sure you block it well to get that lacy finished shape!

This doily pattern is an intermediate skill level, includes some step-by-step photos, and you can download the pattern here.

I’ll be back this fall with something fun featuring strawberries, so goodbye until then! I hope you can enjoy every last minute of the waning summertime.
~Kristen
