Organizing with Storybook Charm: Cherry Tree Lane Toy Bins

Hello friends! This is Jennifer Long from Sew A Story.

One of my favorite parts of designing fabric collections is imagining how they can become part of everyday family life. Quilts, dolls, and crafts all have a special place in the home, especially when they are made with love.

Today I want to share a fun and practical project from my A Spoonful of Sugar fabric collection for Riley Blake Designs: the Cherry Tree Lane Toy Bins.

These fabric bins are both decorative and useful, helping keep toys, books, and treasures neatly organized while adding a sweet storybook touch to a child’s room.

A Craft Inspired by Storybook Homes

The Cherry Tree Lane Toy Bins are designed to look like charming little buildings, inspired by the whimsical neighborhood feel of the A Spoonful of Sugar collection.

There are three different bin styles included in the pattern:

• A large house bin
• A small house bin
• A telephone booth bin

The finished bins measure approximately 12″ × 9″ × 12″ for the large bin and 9″ × 9″ × 12″ for the smaller bins, making them a wonderful size for organizing toys or craft supplies.

Bringing the Neighborhood to Life with Fabric

The prints in A Spoonful of Sugar were designed to feel playful, nostalgic, and full of gentle movement. You will notice storybook florals, delicate plaids, and whimsical prints that work beautifully together.

When used in these bins, the fabrics help create the feeling of a little neighborhood. The windows, rooftops, and decorative panels are pieced together using a variety of prints from the collection, giving each bin personality and charm.

It is a wonderful project for using several fabrics together while building something both beautiful and practical.

A Handmade Solution for Everyday Life

I love projects that combine creativity with usefulness. These toy bins are sturdy and structured, helping them hold their shape while still being soft and handmade.

They are perfect for storing:

• dolls and soft toys
• books and bedtime treasures
• craft supplies
• dress up accessories

You can place them beside a bed, on a shelf, or in a playroom to create a space that feels warm and welcoming for children.

Crafting a Home Filled with Stories

Sewing projects like these remind me that handmade items do more than decorate a room. They help create spaces where children can imagine, play, and grow.

Whether you make one bin or a full set, the Cherry Tree Lane Toy Bins. are a sweet way to bring storytelling into everyday organization.

If you decide to sew this project using the A Spoonful of Sugar fabrics, I would love to see what you create.

I can’t wait to see what you create!
Yours in crafting connections,
Jennifer Long
