Urban Cottage Quilt from The Patchwork Companion

Urban Cottage Quilt in Faraway Kingdom – The Patchwork Companion

Hello, Friends! It’s Sandy from Thai Charm here. The Urban Cottage Quilt is one of those designs that settles in quietly as the blocks start coming together. I brought this quilt outside on one of those early spring days here in Minnesota, when the ground is still covered in last season’s leaves and the lake hasn’t quite thawed yet. It felt like the perfect place for it. There’s something about that in-between season that mirrors this quilt for me, soft, grounded, and quietly full of life.

Fabric Selection: Faraway Kingdom with Blossom Basics

For this version, I used the Faraway Kingdom collection by Natàlia Juan Abelló and paired it with Blossom in White Gold Sparkle for the background.

The prints in Faraway Kingdom have such a gentle, storybook feel. Soft greens, warm browns, and small details bring a sense of calm that works beautifully with the structure of this quilt. To balance that, the Blossom Basics background gives everything room to breathe. It creates a clean, airy space where each block can stand out while still feeling cohesive.

From The Patchwork Companion by C&T Publishing

The Urban Cottage Quilt is one of the projects featured in my upcoming book, The Patchwork Companion. This book is very close to my heart. I created it to help quilters grow their skills in a way that feels approachable and encouraging. Because of that, each quilt focuses on a core technique, so you’re not just following steps, but understanding the process… and learning to trust your own creative decisions.

It’s been really special to take this quilt from the pages of the book and bring it to life in fabric. Seeing how it comes together outside of the book, with real textures and color, adds a whole new layer to the experience.

I hope you enjoyed seeing this Urban Cottage Quilt come together… and maybe found a little inspiration for your own version along the way. This one was such a joy to work on, and I hope you enjoy the process just as much when you make yours.

Happy Quilting!
Sandy : )
