The Hannah Quilt in Get In Line Batiks

There’s something about batiks under a soft fall sky that just sings. This quilt is all rhythm and color—bright, textured stripes stacked in tidy columns, with airy white bands that let the jewel tones glow. We photographed it along the river, and every little bar caught the light like a row of tiny sunrises.

Fabric + vibe

I went full batiks—sapphire, mango, raspberry, lagoon, and amethyst—mixed with a crisp white background so the stripes stay graphic from afar and beautifully textured up close. Batiks have that hand-dyed variation that makes even the smallest pieces feel alive; in a lineup like this, they read like a chorus. The quilt is framed with a striped border, which echoes the bars in the center and gives the whole piece a polished, modern edge.

Why I love this design for batiks

The repeating bars create an easy rhythm that lets strong colors coexist without shouting over each other. The negative space keeps everything fresh and airy, while the stacked layout gives a woven look that works in any palette—from tropical brights to moody gem tones. It’s a great showcase for those “one-of-each” batik bundles or a well-loved stash.

Quilting

I chose an allover, soft loopy meander. It adds a gentle layer of texture without competing with the linear stripes and gives the quilt a relaxed drape—the kind that invites you to pull it over your lap and stay awhile.

Little details that make it sing

  • A mix of high- and low-value batiks keeps the stripes from blending together.
  • The white intervals act like deep breaths between color phrases.
  • The striped border ties the composition together and frames the color story without weighing it down.
