Sew a World of Imagination with the Fairy Dreams Dress Up Pattern

Hello friends! This is Jennifer Long from Sew A Story. If there’s one thing that makes sewing extra special, it’s when your project can spark imagination and joyful play. The Fairy Dreams Dress Up pattern is designed to do just that.

This beginner-friendly craft pattern includes everything you need to create a full dress up set: skirt, wings, crown, and wand. Whether your little one is dancing through the garden or twirling in the kitchen, this soft costume brings so much joy to both the maker and the child.

Make It Magical for Everyday or Halloween

Originally designed with my Thimbelina fabric collection for Riley Blake Designs, the Fairy Dreams Dress Up pattern is full of whimsy and possibility. The soft petal skirt, oversized butterfly wings, and handmade crown and wand can be sewn in any palette you choose.

And if you’re looking for a Halloween costume idea that’s handmade and meaningful, this is a perfect choice. Use darker or bolder prints to create a woodland fairy or fall princess look. Add glow in the dark thread, a little sparkle paste, or even some embroidered stars. The pattern is flexible enough to bring any fairy tale to life.

What’s Included

This pattern is made with comfort and creativity in mind. Each piece is soft, adjustable, and easy to take on and off. You can customize the sizing based on the child’s measurements and use your favorite prints to make it extra special.

According to the fabric chart on page 12, here is what you’ll need:

  • Skirt band: 1/8 yard
  • Skirt accents: 3/8 and 1/2 yard
  • Skirt main: 5/8 yard
  • Wings main and accent (plus crown and wand): 5/8 yard
  • 1 yard HeatnBond Fusible Fleece
  • 1 yard HeatnBond Craft Extra Firm Interfacing
  • 3 yards of 3/4″ elastic
  • 2 1/2 yards of ribbon
  • Optional: embellishments, sparkle paste, embroidery floss

You’ll also need fiberfill and a stick (like a dowel or cake pop stick) for the wand.

Whether you are creating a costume for pretend play or stitching something for Halloween night, the Fairy Dreams Dress Up pattern offers a chance to sew something thoughtful and filled with magic. I hope it brings just as much joy to your home as it has to mine.

I can’t wait to see what you create.
Yours in crafting together,
Jennifer Long
