Lights On! & a Riley Blake Basics Valentine’s Quilt

It’s February and I wanted to share with you a fun and quick project that I put together with Lights On!. This is a lovely collection of white-on-white collection prints by different RBD designers.

Coordinating fabrics with white-on-white prints

The Lights On! prints are very subtle, but they all have such different texture, which brings a really nice effect to a quilt background – it’s white but if you look closely it’s full of pretzels, chickens, hearts and more!

Alongside Lights On!, I picked three different Riley Blake basics:

  • Texture in Barn Red, which is a deeper shade of red
  • Bee Ginghams Debbie Cayenne which reminded of the lid of my favourite strawberry jam
  • Confetti Cottons in Lead for the applique and jam jar lid

Low volume is your opportunity for bold quilting!

Finally, I matched the colour of the jam jar with my favourite Glide 40wt thread, and quilted the groovy strawberries pantograph from Sew Shabby Quilting on my longarm.

Binding with gingham fabric

I love stripey binding, but had not tried gingham for binding before – I’m so glad I did! Riley Blake has a really extensive collection of fun gingham, have a look at all the different sizes and styles on their website.

Would you like to make your own jam jar?

This pattern will be releasing later this year, alongside its companion ‘Nuts about you’ peanut butter jar. Follow me on instagram @rosehillquilts and get in touch if you want to test this pattern.
