Fair Isle Forest Block of the Month

Inspired by traditional Fair Isle knitting patterns and woodland flora and fauna, the Fair Isle Forest quilt is a unique make you won’t want to miss. Riley Blake’s Confetti Cotton solids form a bright but earthy color palette perfect for this design!

This project is the featured Block of the Month by Alderwood Studio for 2026, and it is currently underway – though the relaxed schedule means anyone can join at any time and catch up easily.

Riley Blake’s Confetti Cottons give every block crisp definition and allows the intricate piecing to shine! This pattern can be made with either traditional piecing or foundation paper piecing, and these fabrics work so wonderfully for either method.

Throughout the year, participants create a collection of forest-inspired blocks featuring wildlife, geometric motifs, and decorative borders that gradually build into the finished quilt. Join here at any time!

One of the best parts of a block-of-the-month project is the chance to enjoy the process. Instead of tackling a large quilt all at once, each month offers a manageable piece of the project while steadily working toward a beautiful finish.

I can’t wait to see more Fair Isle Forest quilts grow throughout the year!
