Make it Modern – Braided Together

Hi friends! It’s Vickeidy from Sewspicious. I’m a quilter, maker, and pattern designer who loves sharing my creativity with this wonderful community. Today, I’m excited to talk about my Braided Together quilt, how I designed it and where the idea for this design came from. Let’s get started.
The Design
Braided Together is a very meaningful quilt for me. It’s my interpretation of the Trans Flag and a project that holds a lot of personal significance.
The design idea came from a mash up of two of my previous patterns:
Both designs have always felt special to me, and bringing them together became a way to explore how familiar ideas can evolve into something new. As I played with the elements of each pattern, the design began to feel woven and intentional, echoing the themes of connection, care, and community that inspired this quilt from the very beginning.
The Fabric

For the fabric, I used Riley Blake Confetti Cottons. The color range is huge, which made it really easy to get the colors as close to the Trans Flag as I wanted. I loved having so many options to fine tune the palette and make sure the quilt felt just right.
Colors used:

Longarm Quilting
I knew I wanted to quilt this piece with matchstick straight lines spaced about 1/4″ apart. Since I don’t have a machine big enough to tackle that at home, I sent it out for longarm quilting. The quilting was done by Amanda Oros of Sweet Pea Design Co., and we used Superior OMNI thread in: Natural White (3002), Tidal Pool (3101), Candy Pink (3137) to echo the colors of the design.

Thank you!
