Sewing Seeds III with Amanda Rowland

Hello Makers,
When creating with the fabulous Sewing Seeds III collection by J. Wecker Frisch, I was inspired to come up with a fun way to use as many of the seed packet panels as possible. The seed packet panels came in a variety of sizes, small medium and large.
My first project made use of one of the large square panels, pictured here and also posted on Instagram in June this year. The cushion was made for my sewing machine chair.

Using two of the black & white prints, I first edged the panel with 2 contrasting narrow borders. I then created some embellishments using 2 of the coloured blender fabrics, stitched using the English Paper Piecing (Epp) technique. The flowers and hexagons were then hand appliqued to the panel. The panel was then finished with some embroidery stitches to create the stems for the flowers.

The main project using Sewing Seeds is a throw sized quilt top (or it could be a large wall hanging). Pictured here and also posted on my Instagram account @amandalovestocreate in September.
Using a wide variety of the seed packet panels I prepared a layout to see what worked best. I started with the large centre panel using the larger seed packets. I then added narrow sashing and two larger pieces of blender fabric to fill the gaps. To complete the centre panel, I machine appliqued three of the small botanical motifs to each piece of the blender fabric.

For the outer border, I decided to make 9 patch rectangle blocks to alternate with the medium seed packets (the 9 patches were Epp’d). My goal with the outer border was to give a lattice like affect while framing the centre panel.

I’m including here a third idea I’ve come up with for another cushion using this inspiring collection. These seed packet panels perfectly matched some Liberty prints that I had on hand. I hope to finish this cushion next year.
Happy sewing to you all.
Amanda ♡
