Blackout – Graphic Pineapple Quilt
When I first saw the Blackout collection, I knew I wanted to play with its mix of bold, tonal black and gray prints. The subtle variety in the designs, from confetti, to dots, to adorable cat faces, simply adds just the right amount of texture without overwhelming the eye. Paired with a rainbow spectrum of Confetti Cotton solids, and it was clear this quilt needed to be something big, bold, and a little bit playful.

A Graphic Spin on a Classic Block
Hey there, Kelly Renay here, for this project I went with an oversized pineapple block, finishing at around 33″ square. My inspiration came from the mini pineapple blocks that Alison Glass and Guicy Guice have shared. Instead of going small, I thought, why not scale it way up? The result is a quilt that feels both modern and nostalgic, drawing on the timeless pineapple motif but with a modern twist.

Playing with Scale and Color
By using the Blackout prints as the alternating “rings” of the pineapple, the rainbow solids truly pop. The high contrast pulls your eye toward the center, radiating outward like a glowing spectrum. The size makes it versatile, too. It can work as a wall quilt, a dramatic table topper, or even a bold statement piece folded over a couch or chair.

A Quilt That Glows from the Inside Out
What I love most about this design is the play between light and dark. The Blackout fabrics ground the design, while the Confetti Cotton rainbow adds energy and movement. Together, they create a piece that feels vibrant and graphic.
