Getting Modern with the Basics

I’m back fibre friends! It’s Shereece Nicole of Sew Hooked on Treasures here again to share another new pattern I had an fabulous time designing and making.

Meet the Tessa quilt pattern, which is now available in Issue 66 of Make Modern Magazine. New to Make Modern? They’re a fantastic Australian-based digital modern quilting magazine. This will actually be my third pattern with them. Generations was in Issue 45 and Separate Way was in Issue 43 (both of which are in Confetti Cottons!). Modern quilters, you will want to subscribe to and follow this magazine!

This version of Tessa features all Riley Blake Designs Basics (Confetti Cottons and Shades) to create a cascading ombre effect. I also include instructions for keeping it simple with a three-color version. However, you can really get creative with your fabric selection, like featuring larger prints in the bigger squares, fussy cutting cute prints for some of the smaller ones. Evening on the Prairie and Vintage Barbie (coming in November) have a good variety of both. Feel free to play away!

For the backing and binding, I went with Bee Cross Stitch to match the Riley Navy background. The elegant simplicity of this print makes it so versatile for use in various quilt styles. I highly encourage you to give it a shot.

If you happen to make this quilt, please share your versions with me on Instagram, Facebook or by email. You can also reach out in those places or in the comments below with questions.

Stitch on me hearties, 💕
