From Fabric to Forest: Cozy Pajamas for Little Adventurers!
Hi everyone! It’s Mary from Ember Craft Company, back with another matchy matchy outfit set for the twins!
Now, if you follow me on Instagram here, you will see how much fun I have making matching clothing for our 5 year old children, Emma and Connor. Right now, they LOVE the outfits I make for them. AND they don’t mind matching, for now, at least. I think having them match is the cutest thing. I know this time is fleeting, so I’m trying to enjoy it and make all the things for them while I can! Find the post for the last RBD matching set I made for them here!

The Fabric!
I was recently looking for flannel to use for a new set of pajamas for them, when I came across the new Woodland Creatures Designer Flannel from Riley Blake Designs. These darling, double-napped prints feature bears, foxes and deer, and are simply the cutest! (Double-napped means it’s brushed on BOTH sides, making it extra soft!) I love when there are different colorways of the same prints – Emma chose the version in Cream and Connor chose the Pine! This flannel is so soft out of the dryer, it is amazing for pajamas!

Emma’s Nightgown!
Emma is a dress girl for sure, and has been since she was a baby. She prefers nightgowns and the more ruffles, the better. Enter the Primrose Nightgown by Sunflower Seams (find the pattern here!). This makes truly the sweetest little girl’s nightgown with options for ruffles on the neck and hem, as well as long or short sleeves.
Now, I was a little unsure about adding the ruffles to the neckline using flannel. It’s definitely a little thicker than quilting cotton, and I didn’t want it to be bulky or stiff around her neck. We decided to try it, and honestly it worked fine! Definitely a little tricky, particularly around the rounded top corner of the bodice. Emma says it doesn’t bother her, and has softened even more after a few washes.

Connor’s Pajamas!
Connor asked for button-up pajamas like his grandfather. This may be the cutest request I’ve gotten from him. I found the Holiday Pajamas pattern by Sew a Little Seam on Etsy (find the link to the pattern here) that fit that request. These are classic collared pajamas with optional piping details. The pants have pockets as well, perfect for all the little treasures he finds.

Now, I have never sewn a garment with piping before. The darling samples in the pattern with this detail make it impossible not to try it. This is definitely a new challenge for me, and it may be awhile before I try it again! The closest I can get to describing it would be similar to installing zippers along every edge of the garment, sleeves and pants included! It can be tricky to sew the piping down close to the edges of the curved areas, even with a zipper foot. I’ve found since trying this that there is a foot made specifically for adding piping for my sewing machine with a channel for the piping to run through. I will say the piping is a super cute detail on these, even if it gets a little wonky in some areas.

I hope this project inspires you to make your own flannel pajamas for your little adventurers!
