Stitch the Dash Doll: A Handmade Friend for the Holiday Season

Hello friends! This is Jennifer Long from Sew A Story. One of my favorite things about sewing during the holidays is that every project feels extra meaningful. The Dash Doll is a soft, stitchable companion made entirely in the hoop and ready to bring comfort, joy, and a little bit of magic to the season.

With gentle features, simple construction, and cozy accessories, the Dash Doll is a lovely gift for a child, a heartfelt holiday make, or a peaceful project for yourself.

A Soft-Sculpted Doll to Treasure

The Dash Doll is designed for machine embroidery and includes files for three sizes: 14″, 16″, and 18″. His outfit includes a soft tunic, stitched on shoes, a pointed hat, and an optional backpack with tiny straps.

Whether you picture him in a holiday display or tucked into a stocking, this doll is full of character and charm. His pointed hat and friendly face make him especially sweet for winter and Christmas themes.

You can also coordinate Dash with other dolls from the Modern Rag Doll collection to create a full cast of handmade characters.

Fabric and Materials

The Dash Doll was sewn using fabric from the Thimbelina collection by Jennifer Long for Riley Blake Designs. These prints bring soft texture, warm color, and a bit of fairy tale charm to every detail.

From the materials chart in the pattern, you will need:

  • Body: C120-SHELL Confetti Cotton
  • Outfit: C16864-SPRING Dotty and C16862-NECTAR Garden
  • Hair: wool, felt, or minky in your preferred tone
  • Hat: C16862-NECTAR Garden
  • Optional: elastic, washi tape, fusible fleece, tear-away and cut-away stabilizers, fiberfill

Each step of the process is clearly outlined in the pattern, with diagrams to help you keep track of your pieces and stitching order.

A Peaceful Project to Make and Give

The Dash Doll is a gentle, handmade project perfect for winter making. Whether you are sewing him as a keepsake, a holiday gift, or simply for the joy of creating something soft and personal, I hope this doll brings a little warmth to your sewing table.

I can’t wait to see what you create.
Yours in crafting together,
Jennifer Long
