The Grown with Love Quilt – Featuring the New Evening on the Prairie Fabric Collection by Modern Prairie

Hi everyone! Mary Burroughs-Mayer from Ember Craft Company here to share my latest quilt pattern!

There’s something so satisfying about watching a quilt literally bloom, one block at a time. My Grown with Love quilt pattern has been one of those joyous makes that feels full of growth from start to finish. This pattern is available in my Etsy Shop HERE – use code “GROWNWITHLOVE” for 20% off my entire pattern shop to celebrate!

This design was inspired by the beautiful, rustic charm of the Evening on the Prairie fabrics – the latest collection by Modern Prairie for Riley Blake (find it HERE). The soft florals, cozy plaids, and grounded, autumnal hues feel like a lovely cottage garden that is beginning to wind down for the season. Warm days and chilly evenings. I knew right away that I needed to design something original that would let these fabrics continue to bloom throughout the year.

My Grown with Love quilt combines heart-shaped tulip blocks that symbolize love, growth, and all the little moments that make handmade projects so worth the effort. Each block features one of the beautiful mauve, pink, and soft rust prints in the collection, and the soft green in the stems and more modern dots above the flowers make it the kind of quilt that feels at home in a farmhouse as well as a modern space.

About the Pattern

The Grown with Love pattern includes both a large throw-size quilt and a matching pillow/wall hanging option. It is traditionally pieced and utilizes simple “stitch and flip” techniques as well as 8-at-a-time half-square triangles for the leaves, making it both accessible to the enthusiastic beginner and satisfying for the seasoned quilter.

I’ve also included a bonus tutorial to make the offcuts into more half-square triangles for a simple zipper pouch – can we ever have enough of these?! Head over to the ECC Blog to get the FREE Simple Patchwork Zipper pouch tutorial HERE.

See below for the fabric requirements for the Grown with Love Quilt Pattern, fat eighths as well as 10″ squares can be used for the heart blocks.

The Photoshoot

Now, I grew up (and currently live) in California. Of course, anyone who has never been here knows about San Francisco and Los Angeles, and probably Yosemite National Park. But many don’t realize that the Central Valley of California is predominantly agriculture: California is the 5th largest food supplier in the WORLD and the majority of this is grown in the middle of the state.

I was raised on a dairy farm here that was originally acres of dryland wheat before my family bought it in the 1970’s. It was practically prairie when I was a child. It feels like a full-circle moment to be working with this gorgeous collection when I grew up watching Little House on Prairie and pretending to be Laura Ingalls running through the fields as a little girl.

There are 3 silos on the property that date back to the days when they harvested grain, and a beautiful, old barn that still houses tack for the horses and hay in the winter. There is also a creek lined with gigantic, heritage oak trees. I was able to take this quilt back to the ranch for a few pictures last week and it truly felt right at home. The gentle contrast of the weathered textures and soft floral fabrics captured exactly what I wanted this quilt to feel like: warm, enduring, and made with love.
