Stitch a Storybook Setting with the Fairy Village Quilt

Hello friends! This is Jennifer Long from Sew A Story. I’m so excited to introduce the Fairy Village Quilt, a whimsical project filled with cozy cottages, playful piecing, and plenty of room for imagination.

Originally designed using the Thimbelina fabric collection, this quilt was created to celebrate the magic of fairies, gardens, and creative storytelling. The Thimbelina collection is arriving in shops now, and it brings a soft, vibrant palette that works beautifully with this quilt’s neighborhood of fanciful blocks.

The finished quilt measures 62 ½” x 71 ½” and is traditionally pieced. It is a wonderful project for intermediate quilters who enjoy bringing personality into every block.

A Village That Grows With You

Each block in the Fairy Village Quilt includes charming details that invite you to slow down and enjoy the process. You will find:

  • Nine unique house blocks, each one a little different
  • Star blocks scattered between houses
  • A colorwash layout to highlight beautiful prints
  • Clear instructions for staying organized as you sew

The pattern lends itself to customization and creativity, with plenty of opportunities to feature favorite fabrics and small motifs.

A Halloween Twist on the Village

For a fun seasonal variation, I also created a Halloween version of the Fairy Village Quilt using prints from the Little Witch fabric collection. It was so fun to see how these playful houses transformed with a darker palette and spooky details.

This pattern makes it easy to swap colors or create themed rows for different holidays or seasons. It is a great way to use your imagination and turn your quilt into a keepsake that reflects the time of year or the person you are sewing for.

Fabric Information

The original sample features fabric from the Thimbelina collection by Jennifer Long for Riley Blake Designs. You will need a combination of:

  • Fat quarters, quarter yards, and yardage for the houses, roofs, and stars
  • 2 yards of wideback or 4 yards of standard quilting cotton for backing
  • Batting and binding in a coordinating print or solid

All specific fabric SKUs and measurements can be found in the pattern for easy planning.

Whether you are sewing for spring or stitching something festive for October, the Fairy Village Quilt offers a joyful way to turn fabric into something full of character and charm.

I can’t wait to see what you create.
Yours in crafting together,
Jennifer Long
