Nursery Sampler Quilt with Bee Cross Stitch
Hi there! It is Vickeidy of Sewspicious and I am finally ready to show you the quilt I’ve been working on for the last nine months.
I’ve been working on the Nursery Sampler quilt with the Bee Cross Stitch by Lori Holt and I couldn’t resist sharing my latest project. It is cute and the perfect addition to any baby’s quilt collection.
Planning with a Mock-Up with Quilt Ink
Before I even cut into the fabric, I created a mock-up of the quilt in QuiltInk to map out every color placement. Having a visual guide helped me balance the bright and soft tones, spread out pops of contrast, and make sure the overall look stayed playful without feeling too busy. As I pieced the blocks, I followed that mock-up closely, and it was so satisfying to see the finished quilt match the vision I had sketched out months ago. It truly felt like watching my plan come to life, one block at a time.

Why Bee Cross Stitch?
The Bee Cross Stitch collection was the perfect choice for this quilt. The tiny cross-stitch print adds a layer of charm and texture without overwhelming the design, and the range of colors gave me endless options for playful combinations. It really shines in a sampler quilt, where every block tells its own story but still comes together in harmony.
What I especially love about this collection is the tiny cross-stitch detail printed across every fabric. It gives each block the look of an old-school hand-stitched design, almost like vintage embroidery translated into quilt form. As I stitched, I often thought about how this quilt could be used: a cozy tummy-time mat, a cheerful backdrop for milestone photos, or simply a snuggle quilt to wrap a little one in love. Quilts in nurseries become part of so many small but meaningful moments, and that’s what inspired me to pour so much care into this one.
The Finished Quilt Top
Now that the quilt top is finished, I’m so happy with how it turned out. The textures, the colors, the rhythm of all the blocks together—it’s everything I hoped for.
Getting the Blocks
While the Nursery Sampler quilt was originally released as part of a free sign-up, the blocks are no longer available for free. The good news is that you can still purchase each block individually directly from the pattern designers’ websites. This means you can pick and choose your favorites or collect them all to make your own full sampler quilt.
