Rosalia Quilt in Essence by Fran Gulick
Hi there! It is Vickeidy of Sewspicious and I want to show you this beauty I made this week.
There’s a certain magic that happens when the right quilt pattern meets the perfect fabric collection. That’s exactly how I felt when I paired my Rosalia Quilt Pattern with Fran Gulick’s new Essence fabric line for Riley Blake Designs.

Why Essence?
Fran Gulick’s Essence collection is full of rich blender prints in a balanced mix of lights and darks. This collection is full of striking geometric shapes, fun little prints, soft stardust, and bright colors. It brings so much energy and joy to quilting. I absolutely love it!

Fran Gulick’s Essence fabrics pair beautifully with my Aurifil thread collection, Hilos de Alegría. The seven rainbow neutral shades in my box seem made for this fabric line. They highlight the bold colors, soften the lighter tones, and add just the right amount of contrast where it’s needed.

Piecing the Quilt
One of my favorite parts of making Rosalia is mixing and matching fabrics to create combinations in four different colors. I leaned into high contrast pairings by combining a dark, a light, a medium, and a bright tone. I didn’t worry too much about mixing or repeating prints within each block, and that freedom really helped each section of the block pop. The large blocks come together quickly and the colors really pop in each block.

A few sewing notes:
- Chain piecing kept the process speedy.
- Careful pressing made those star points extra crisp. I pressed all my seams open to reduce bulk.
- Laying out all the blocks before final assembly helped keep track of the colors within the block.

Final Thoughts
Rosalia and Essence were such a natural pair. The finished quilt feels bold and modern yet timeless.
If you want a pattern that really lets your fabric shine and gives you room to play with colors and layout, Rosalia is a great choice. With Essence, it quickly became one of my favorite quilts I’ve ever made.

You can find the Rosalia Quilt Pattern in my shop, and Fran Gulick’s Essence collection is available now at your favorite quilt shops. I can’t wait to see how you make Rosalia your own!
