Two Baby Quilts: Two 16-Patch Quilts with Twinkle Little Star

Hi there! It is Vickeidy of Sewspicious and I have two sweet quilts to share with you.
A Season Full of Babies
Lately, it feels like everyone I know is having a baby! Between showers, announcements, and newborn photos on social media, this summer and fall are full of sweet arrivals.

The Tried and True 16-Patch
When two close friends were expecting, I turned to my favorite, the simple nine patch quilt block. It is timeless and quick, perfect for making something beautiful without losing sleep. I love the quick a sixteen patch comes together. I was able to make these two baby quilts in two days.
Here’s a free 16-patch quilt pattern from Hailey Stitches.

A Dreamy Fabric Choice
I used the Twinkle Little Star fabric collection by Natalia Juan Abelló. It is so sweet, soft and dreamy. It features sheep, stars, moons, and tiny flowers, making it just right for a baby’s first quilt. In addition, the calm and whimsical colors suit any baby perfectly.

Sewing After Bedtime
I worked on these quilts during naps and after bedtime. I was happy to have a pattern that is easy yet special. One quilt uses pink and purple prints, while the other uses navy and softer tones. Together, they feel like twins, similar but not the same. I wish I had process photos, but sewing late at night under fluorescent lights makes photos difficult.

The Comfort of Repetition
Making 16-patch blocks is comforting: cut, stitch, press, repeat. Despite the chaos of diaper changes, nap schedules, playdate coordinating and summer camp pick up, this simple pattern gave me a creative break and resulted in two special quilts for two lucky babies.

A Perfect Pattern for Beginners
If you’re looking for a beginner-friendly baby quilt or a quick project that still feels meaningful, I highly recommend the nine patch. When you pair it with a sweet fabric collection like Twinkle Little Star by Natalia Juan Abelló, it’s the perfect recipe for a little handmade magic.
