Vintage Sogan – Vogue Yoga Pants

In an era of fast fashion it’s always fun to slow it down and make something unique. Something that is fun. Something that is out of the norm. Something that you can wear almost anywhere!
For my new pants, I chose two different Vintage Sogan Batik prints and Cinnibar from the Hand Dyes Expressions Batiks for contrast. The Vintage Sogan is a very firm batik, lending itself very well to “bottoms”. I have made these trousers before from Vogue pattern V9114. I’m sorry to report that the pattern is out of print, but, if you search the internet and skulk around eBay, you may be able to turn it up. When you do, make sure you trace off your size onto something else to preserve your pattern for future sizes and variations.

I always pre-wash my fabrics in hot water and dry in a hot drier before cutting.

Here you can see the inset design being cut out…

In the process of inserting this fun design element there is a half moon shaped piece that has a casing and a fabric made drawcord inserted into it. I like to make that out of a higher contrast to really make it visible. To make that cord, I use a fast turn tube turner. It makes turning tubes super easy and fun!

From here on out, it’s standard pants making procedure. I do have a couple of “hacks” that I like to use though. One is when you make casing/waistband, stitch down the seam allowances before folding over. It will make running your elastic SEW much easier!

The next thing is, even if the pattern tells you to stitch your waistband on the outside and turn it in, DO IT THE OPPOSITE! If you stitch it on the inside and turn it to the outside, you can stitch it down with your sewing machine and no one even knows that you saved yourself from hand stitching!!

Finally, to save yourself the hassle of figuring out front vs. back… make sure you stitch a label in the back!

And yes, it has pockets!!

I finished these up just before heading off to Oshkosh, Wisconsin for the EAA AirVenture Airshow. It’s the biggest fly in event in the United States and of course… there are many vintage aircraft!

This plane has pants with contrasting color too!!!

Thank you for joining me on my sewing adventures… wherever they take me!!!
