RBD Shop Stop – Meet Stitchology!

Welcome to Stitchology! Located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Stitchology has been equipping sewing enthusiasts across the country with everything they need for their next creative adventure—whether it’s making a garment, sewing a bag, or quilting—for the past 13 years. Its skilled and knowledgeable staff is passionate about the art of sewing, offering classes tailored to all ages, interests, and experience levels. A series of how-to videos is also available on the Stitchology website. What sets Stitchology apart is its owner’s background in fashion design, which has shaped a curated inventory of both garment fabrics and quilting cottons, as well as a roster of unique classes, including quilted sneakers, cowboy hats, and indigo dyeing. The owner also designs a signature line of applique quilt patterns inspired by Southwestern life and leads a “design of the month” program that features a new nine-inch applique design each month. Stitchology is deeply committed to its community, regularly organizing food drives and fundraisers for the local food bank. More than just a store, Stitchology is a vibrant, welcoming hub for textile lovers and sewing newcomers alike.

A Note from the Owner:

Hi there all you cool Pins and Needles!  My name is Melisa Hart and I am the owner of Stitchology. I have been sewing since I was 5 when my mom handed me a yard sale sewing machine and told me to entertain myself. Little did she know she was creating a sewing fanatic who would grow up to attend fashion design school and then start her own little Sewing Parlor and Fabric Boutique.

I started the store in 2011 when I was 26 and didn’t know what I was getting myself into!  I was, however, full of enthusiasm, love for my art and the endless energy of youth.  I started small but was optimistic that with hard work and careful planning Stitchology would grow, and in 2020 I was fortunate to have the opportunity to purchase a building and expand to a larger space.

I’m so proud of and grateful for what Stitchology has become.  I’ve been told Stitchology is a place people come for inspiration, to clear their heads, or to reset their moods.  I can’t think of a better compliment, because the truth is, it’s not about the fabric.  It’s not about the patterns.  At the end of the day what really matters is bringing people together, sharing skills and making memories.  My customers and my staff have become my friends and my community, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.  I hope you enjoy learning more about our store and that you will join along on this year’s Design of the Month adventure which you will be able to read about on the Riley Blake Blog.

Do you carry fabric other than 100% cotton for garment sewing? I was thinking of returning to making my own clothes again.
