Pantone Challenge Quilt - Gaggle of Geese -

This year, I decided to join in on the Pantone Quilt Challenge featured by Sarah Ruiz Quilts. Here is the result!

I used Confetti Cottons in Misty, Citron, Sage, Shrubs, Blossom in Curry, and Texture in Forest. For the peach, I used Blossom in PeachesNCream.

I designed the quilt using EQ8 software on my computer.

I used foundation paper piecing to put my flying geese together. It’s a great technique that really challenges you. If you haven’t tried it, I highly recommend doing a simple fpp pattern to start with. Flying Geese are a great way to start!

After I had my pattern created, I cut out my fabric to get ready to sew!

Then, I started creating parts of the flying geese rows.

In order to incorporate the final geese “rainbows” into the background fabric, I used a lot of pins and cut into the background fabric. The flying geese pieces were sewn into the background fabric, so the background fabric actually remained as one peice of fabric.

Next, I did the quilting on my domestic. Funny side note: I actually started out on my longarm and did not like the pattern I had chosen, so I did a lot of unpicking before deciding on domestic quilting. It was a way better decision!

I hope you enjoy my version of a Gaggle of Geese! So named because geese typically fly in a “V” formation and my design shows a “rainbow” formation. I really wanted to have some fun with this and I feel great about it.
